C Is For Characteristics (Shetland Sheepdog) ~ A to Z Blogging Challenge 2020

The Shetland Sheepdog (aka the Sheltie) is a canine of extreme elegance. They are a double coated breed known for their gorgeous long and silky fur, long skulls, almond shaped eyes and small ears that often flop at the tip. Shelties come in colors of black, blue merle and sable with markings of white, tan, mahogany and gray. Pure white Shelties are often linked to blindness and deafness.

Shelties are the smartest small dog breed, which makes them easily trainable. Their sweet, playful and loving nature make them a popular family pet. They tend to keep their natural herding instincts and often round up other animals and small children.

Message from a Sheltie mom – Misty Blue is a sable and white sheltie that does have some black in her fur. The white line that goes along the middle of her nose branches out into two small lines at the top. Sure looks like devil horns to me 😀

For some reason Misty Blue has only one floppy ear, the other stands straight up. She certainly takes her herding instincts seriously! It’s often difficult to get from room to room. Trying to get in the house when Misty Blue thinks we are not finished playing yet can sometimes be a challenge.

What is your favorite and least favorite characteristic of the Shetland Sheepdog?
