T Is For Traits (Shetland Sheepdog) ~ A to Z Blogging Challenge 2020

The Shetland Sheepdog (aka the Sheltie) has many traits. Here are three fun traits. These silly behaviors certainly are entertaining and have a way of lifting your spirits.

The Sheltie Spin – Just like a spinning top (except with jumping and barking) the Sheltie will go around and around in a circle. This usually happens when a Sheltie is excited.

The Sheltie Smile – Sometimes when a Shelties mouth hang open a certain way, it gives the impression of a smile, possibly due to their long noses.

Sheltie Talk – Shelties sometimes make pretty interesting vocal noises. Some strange and some so beautiful it’s as if they are singing.

Message from a Sheltie mom – These traits can sometimes be seen in other breeds. I remember having a dog, many years ago, who sounded like she said Mama. My mother got her at an auction and we never knew what breed (or breeds) she was.

Of the three of these traits I love when Misty Blue makes her funny sounds. Sometimes when she doesn’t want to do something I am asking of her she will moan.

Does your Sheltie spin, smile or talk?

  1. Hahah… Cheryl I love that she ‘moans’ when asked to do something she doesn’t want to do. If only our dogs could talk.

Mind you, Cheryl, our little ‘Pebble’ would have so much to say, I think I’d be asking her to be quiet. Our other little dog ‘Beau’ is more quiet. However, I would love to know what he would say!

  2. Trying to catch up on the AtoZ. Will most likely do the most after April 30–Been sewing for income 😉 Not wanting to take out loans or file for the unemployment. Now about that spinning….Do you have a large living space? I’m not one for figurines and chotchkies everywhere but there are all the toys around here lol

    • It’s the end of May and I am still catching up with comments from the challenge. I was thinking of buying a sewing machine and making face masks as a way to earn some income. It’s been years since I sat in front of a sewing machine that I probably wouldn’t know what to do. Sewing always makes me think of my grandmother. She taught me to sew on one of the sewing machines that had a pedal. You’d put two feet on it and move it to sew. z used to have lots of figurines but with Misty Blue’s spinning episodes I decided it was best to put them away.

      • I have a treadle machine and located a new belt from some Amish near here so hoping to use a YouTube video to get it going again. Gmas were so ready to teach back then weren’t they?! Good memories!
