Shetland Sheepdogs (aka the Sheltie) love giving licks (or kisses as we pet parents like to call it), as do all breed of dog. Kissing is a natural canine behavior. It’s a part of their socialization. It’s also believed that a kiss on your mouth from your pooch can relay information to them, such as where you have been and who else you have been with.
It was once thought that a dog’s mouth was cleaner than a humans. That has been found to be not true. Some parasites have been passed from humans through licking such as hookworm, roundworm and giardia. Healthy people have minimal health risks but those who have a weak immune system should think about the risks.
Message from a Sheltie mom– I know lots of people who allow that wet, sloppy kiss from their canine. Misty Blue is always going for the mouth. I know she is showing affection but I have a hard time engaging in that behavior. I try, often letting her almost kiss my mouth. I do feel bad. My son, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to have a problem with it.
I deal with a handful of autoimmune diseases but even if I didn’t, I would probably feel the same way about doggie kisses. I really envy those who can let their dog slobber all over their face and not worry a thing about it.
Do you let your Shetland Sheepdog kiss you on the mouth?

I would never let a dog near my face. Saying that, all the dogs of my childhood were outdoor dogs but even if I had an indoor dog, cuddles would be as far as it goes.
I’ve read it’s not good to let a dog near your face. Many dogs don’t like it.
Ewwww no way, I hate to see people letting their dogs lick their face and mouth.
I agree.
No animal kisses on the mouth. Ewwww. (I’m with the Dublin housewife). Ewww.
Can’t say that I don’t blame you…lol
agree with all the above. no doggie kisses on the face, most especially the mouth. i’ve seen where that muzzle has been.
