It’s been said that envy can be a great cause of unhappiness for the person who is feeling this emotion. Those who are envious often show their feelings either in subtle ways or in more hurtful ways by inflicting misfortune on another. Envious people are those who see a person who has something that they want and they become jealous. This can be anything, a job, a trait, a situation, or a loving relationship. People who are envious are not happy for you when you receive good news of a significant positive nature or things are going extremely well for you. They may seem happy for you but if you watch closely enough their body language will tell the truth. Often envious people will insult you and then tell you that it was just a joke. They have this need to convince themselves they are better than you so they will put down the way you live and people who are important to you. An envious person will rain on your parade, burst your bubble, and even try to steal your significant other. They will pretend to be your friend, a shoulder to cry on, when your life is not going well but the minute your life is happy they are no longer around. Envy is listed as one of the 7 deadly sins.

Also known as Ms57Classic I came into this world on a summer morning on July 22, 1957. Newborn babies usually do not cry real tears at birth because their tear ducts have not formed yet. But I cried real tears! I have been through many things in my life and have dealt with a multitude of situations and emotions. I have been married and divorced twice. I am an ex-navy wife. I am a mom, a Grammie of 8 (so far), a sister, an aunt, and a friend of longevity. I have a son and a son-in-law in the US Navy and am very proud of their job decision and their accomplishments. My job as a mother is FOREVER. It will not stop when a child of mine reaches the age of 18! I have always been well liked, but not liked by all. I can stretch a dollar like it’s a rubber band. I like the person I am. I graduated from a writing school. I am in the process of writing a book. I graduated from University of Phoenix at the age of 56 with an associate’s degree in Art. I am disabled, having a multitude of health issues. I had a corneal transplant and since then have become an advocate for organ and tissue donation. One of my hobbies is finding those who share the exact birthday as me – July 22, 1957.   1. This is something I struggle with personally. I can be envious and I don’t like it. I think envious people usually think that there’s only limited resources of everything: love, attention, money. And if somebody else gets it, there won’t be any left for them.
    Which is of course not true and not a healthy kind of thinking either!

    • I think we’ve all been a little envious at times. It’s when envy actually turns into hurting someone in some way that it has become dangerous! Thank you for reading and commenting on my post. Good luck with the A to Z Challenge. This is my first year.

  2. Hello there you touch on an emotion I fear I don’t like envy at all. Your post makes me wonder if I suffer this I don’t think I do I do however suffer longing which I think a gentler version x

    • I agree that longing could be considered a gentler version of envy. I think everyone has been a bit envious at one time or another. Take for example someone you work with gets the promotion that you wanted and really felt you deserved. You might feel a bit envious but you don’t act on that emotion. When someone sabotages a marriage because they are jealous that the couple is happy, now that is full blown envy!

      • Hehe true I think I prob felt envy maybe before my health issues rather than now it’s odd but life’s perspective changes somewhat. I was really sitting and thinking if I felt any envy recently. Lots of other emotions but I really don’t think that one 🙂 I will now I said that lol

  3. Alas, envy and I are on far too familiar of terms. The most interesting thing about it to me, is that I can use it as sort of a thermometer for my feelings toward someone. If I sincerely feel no envy when they achieve/get something I want for myself, and honestly only feel happy for them, well, that helps show me how important they are to me 🙂
