Quizzical

“When you have birds you stare at them a lot and their eyes are recessed on their head. When they look at something they tilt their head in a quizzical expression. “ -Ted Rall

Q is for Quizzical

Not too sure if quizzical is an emotion but it keeps coming up on the Internet as one. Since I’m having a hard time finding a “Q” word for today I am going to use this one.

Quizzical is a word you do not hear every day. It can mean a variety of things such as puzzled, questioning, eccentric, odd, skeptical, surprised, and even comical. Since this word can mean comical I have decided to share some saying that I though could be considered quite quizzical.
I am not sure who said these as I did a search and came up with nothing. So I’m thinking they are all from an unknown author. If you happen to know who said any of these saying please let me know so I can give credit.

1. There are plenty more fish in the sea, but who wants to go out on a date with a fish?
2. Have you ever considered suing your brain for non-support?
3. Don’t use a silencer to kill a mime or his friends will hear you.
4. When I was little, my mom told me I could be anyone I wanted to be. Apparently, the cops call this identity theft.

  1. Alice, as she slipped through the Looking Glass, had a quizzical expression on her face? I know it’s a bit ‘lame’ … people doing crossword puzzles often have a quizzical look about them… Enjoyed your humurous quotes thank you Cheryl. (In South Africa, we use the ‘u’ in ‘humorous’ in case you are being quizzical about my spelling?)

    • Great examples of quizzical expressions, especially the one about people doing crossword puzzles. This reminded me of my grandfather. I pictured him in my mind sitting in his chair doing his crossword puzzles and I could actually remember the faces he would make.

    • Thanks for the visit and the comment. I’ve been able to keep up daily with the blog challenge but unfortunately I am way behind in replying to comments. I am now following you.

  2. It was my word for the letter Q last year, ahaha! Tough one.
I see what you mean. It’s not an emotion or actually it’s a lack of emotion.
    With great respect!

  4. My dog looks at me with a quizzical expression every time I talk to him. I know he understands me, though. I don’t know who wrote the quotes above, but I love the mime one! 😀

  5. I love these sayings, the fish one especially made me smile.

Same as Sara, my cats often look at me quizzically. In fact they look at my quizzically no matter what I do. It must be their default emotion!

    • Cats seem to have a way all their own..lol Wouldn’t you just love to know what they are thinking when they are looking at you with that quizzical expression? Great sentence!

    • My expression is going to be more than quizzical when I have to write a blog post using the letter X (which happens to be tomorrow). Great sentence! Thank you for reading and commenting on my blog.

  6. This makes me think of the quizzical looks dogs get. You know the one. The one ear lifts a bit, or moves forward (depending on breed) and theres that unmistakable, adorable head tilt. Sometimes switching from side to side.
