Founded in 1982, Bat Conservation International is an organization dedicated to preserving a most valuable resource, the bat, and protecting their habitat.

Bats are beneficial to the environment in many ways. Some bats receive their nourishment by eating insects, such as mosquitoes and other bugs that destroy crops. Others pollinate banana, avocado, and other plants. Bats play a vital role in our environment and the survival of re growth, and the rain forest depends on them.

Bats have been misunderstood and feared for centuries. According to this website China has considered them to be symbols of luck.

This website offers great information on the importance of bats and how they help our ecosystem. Any inaccurate information on these valuable creatures is also addressed.

  1. I find bats fascinating. We were camping last weekend in the New Forest, southern UK. Just as dusk was falling we were walking along a country lane and I have never seen so many bats in one place/time. They must have come out of roost to feed, all at once.

    • I remember when I was young believing that bats would go after my hair and would run into the house every time I saw one. I wonder who made up those stories?? Thank you for stopping by!

  2. This is a nice informative post.! I have always been intrigued by Bats…! Love this post…!

    • Thank you! I think I was scared of bats because of the show Dark Shadows…lol I found this non-profit website very informative and cleared up a lot of misconceptions that I had.

  3. We have plenty of bats where I live. I love watching them race around in the darkness of night, wondering where they came from and where they’re going.
Good luck with the rest of the challenge.

  4. I really like bats and like you say they have always been portrayed as evil things. They are actually very cute beings!

  5. I was in the “I’m scared of bats camp” until on a trip to Texas a friend of mine was telling me about the Bracken Bat Flight in San Antonio. I’ve never seen it but my curiosity was piqued and I have found some YouTube videos on it-Amazing!! They are interesting creatures.

    • I’ll have to check out a video on the Bracken Bat Flight. Sounds interesting! I think their appearance is one of the reasons they scare people. I mean they aren’t as cute as a puppy or a kitten.

      • Even though they used to creep me out when I saw pictures of their faces I thought they were kinda cute. When I heard about the Bracken Bat Flight I really wanted to go see it but have not had the opportunity.
