If you have ever watched to movie, The Wizard of Oz, (well, who hasn’t), you might remember what the Wizard said to the Tin Man. He said, “A heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how much you are loved by others.”
I take this to mean that it doesn’t matter how many people we love, what truly matters is being the kind of person that people love. That is what it’s all about.
Some characteristics that attract this love are, being non-judgmental and taking a genuine interest in peoples thoughts, feelings and opinions. Also, I believe you have to be a good listener. And by that I mean when someone is telling you something, you don’t interrupt to insert an opinion or start talking about yourself.
Betty White and Princess Diana are examples of people who gave of themselves, that a whole world loved and mourned for them.
These are the types of people that inspire me.
My childhood swim coach, Rob VanSlyke, inspired me by teaching all of us kids the power of positive thinking.
