Did you know that lower back pain is the leading cause of disability? And an estimated 80% of people will experience some sort of back problem during their life! Pain from back issues can be excruciating. It can immobilize you to the point where you cannot work or even enjoy a family gathering. It can lead to depression. Many times you don’t have to be in an accident to bring on a back issue as some forms of back problems can be hereditary.
Today I am talking to an admin for the Facebook group, Back Pain, Herniated Disc, Sciatica, etc.
Please welcome Felicia
Well my name is Felicia and I am 33 years old. Born and raised in Texas. I first hurt my back while I was working as a certified nurse aide about 17 years ago. I had to do physical therapy and was off work for a little while. They did an MRI but they said they didn’t see anything. So a few years past and I dealt with the pain. About 4 years later I was working in another nursing home. I was coming out of the ice room and didn’t see water on the floor. I slipped and fell. I finished my night at work. Woke up the next morning I and couldn’t move. I was off work for about two months and did a little physical therapy then went to see my workers comp doctor and he was like ok you are good to go back to work. I was not ready to go back to work but I did. I came home every day hurting so bad I wanted to cry. After about a few months of working in the nursing home I switched and went to work for home health for about 5 years. It was a little easier on my back. So I dealt with the pain. When the doctor sent me to a pain specialist all he did was give me pain pills, never did X-rays or MRI. He ended up getting fired for another issue. Now I have a new pain management doctor who actually wants to fix me. I love taking care of the elderly but it was just too hard on my back. So now I still work in the medical field but I do billing. I thought a sit down job would be so much easier on my back but it’s not lol. Being in pain is also expensive. Especially if you don’t have insurance. They prescribed me Lyrica which is supposed to help with nerve pain. It was over $600. I couldn’t afford it. I have spent maybe $300 on different types of visions to help but none have help at all. Sometimes I pray and wish for the lord to take me so I don’t have to deal with some of this pain. But hopefully soon I can get some relief.
Please tell the readers a little about the group.
This group is for support, comfort and a lending ear. A lot of people in this group have been through what others are going through and it helps to get their advice. Well I really didn’t know that I was an admin until recently. But I couldn’t be happier. I like to listen to people when they have issues and if they are in pain maybe there is something that I know that could help them and vice versa. Everyone is so nice and respectful in this group. I couldn’t have found a better support group then this one.
What would you like this group to accomplish?
What would I like for this group to accomplish? Well honestly I want everyone to know that we all have pain at least once in our lives and we are all here to support each other, give advice and just be there for each other. A lot of times a spouse or significant other just doesn’t understand what we are going through or may think that we are faking. We are here to not judge, we are here to listen and support each other.
Thank you Felicia for taking the time to tell us about this important group.
