Did you know that lower back pain is the leading cause of disability? And an estimated 80% of people will experience some sort of back problem during their life! Pain from back issues can be excruciating. It can immobilize you to the point where you cannot work or even enjoy a family gathering. It can lead to depression. Many times you don’t have to be in an accident to bring on a back issue as some forms of back problems can be hereditary.
Today I am talking to an admin for the Facebook group, Back Pain, Herniated Disc, Sciatica, etc.
Please welcome Felicia
Well my name is Felicia and I am 33 years old. Born and raised in Texas. I first hurt my back while I was working as a certified nurse aide about 17 years ago. I had to do physical therapy and was off work for a little while. They did an MRI but they said they didn’t see anything. So a few years past and I dealt with the pain. About 4 years later I was working in another nursing home. I was coming out of the ice room and didn’t see water on the floor. I slipped and fell. I finished my night at work. Woke up the next morning I and couldn’t move. I was off work for about two months and did a little physical therapy then went to see my workers comp doctor and he was like ok you are good to go back to work. I was not ready to go back to work but I did. I came home every day hurting so bad I wanted to cry. After about a few months of working in the nursing home I switched and went to work for home health for about 5 years. It was a little easier on my back. So I dealt with the pain. When the doctor sent me to a pain specialist all he did was give me pain pills, never did X-rays or MRI. He ended up getting fired for another issue. Now I have a new pain management doctor who actually wants to fix me. I love taking care of the elderly but it was just too hard on my back. So now I still work in the medical field but I do billing. I thought a sit down job would be so much easier on my back but it’s not lol. Being in pain is also expensive. Especially if you don’t have insurance. They prescribed me Lyrica which is supposed to help with nerve pain. It was over $600. I couldn’t afford it. I have spent maybe $300 on different types of visions to help but none have help at all. Sometimes I pray and wish for the lord to take me so I don’t have to deal with some of this pain. But hopefully soon I can get some relief.
Please tell the readers a little about the group.
This group is for support, comfort and a lending ear. A lot of people in this group have been through what others are going through and it helps to get their advice. Well I really didn’t know that I was an admin until recently. But I couldn’t be happier. I like to listen to people when they have issues and if they are in pain maybe there is something that I know that could help them and vice versa. Everyone is so nice and respectful in this group. I couldn’t have found a better support group then this one.
What would you like this group to accomplish?
What would I like for this group to accomplish? Well honestly I want everyone to know that we all have pain at least once in our lives and we are all here to support each other, give advice and just be there for each other. A lot of times a spouse or significant other just doesn’t understand what we are going through or may think that we are faking. We are here to not judge, we are here to listen and support each other.
Thank you Felicia for taking the time to tell us about this important group.

There’s nothing more debilitating than a sore back. Thanks for sharing.
I have to agree!
Oh man, I had crippling sciatica around this time of year nine years ago. So much pain I never want to revisit.
I’ve never had sciatica but I have heard it can be brutal. I’m glad you aren’t dealing with it any more.
Too many people out there who are debilitated by back pain.
Great idea to share support groups to help others.
Today I’m loving the “bat beat” of the Ancholi A Piece of Uganda
Way too many people! It’s been great doing the Facebook Groups. Thank you for visiting!
This post would apply to most people of my age. My husband’s sciatica over the last twelve months has severely curtailed his activities and he wonders if he will ever be able to do the things he loves, gardening, cycling, travel etc again.
It’s tough when your back keeps you from doing things that you love to do. Hopefully your husband’s sciatica will ease up so he can do things again.
Wow – so young to hurt your back so permanently. I threw mine out for the first time when I was 15 and have had manageable (thank goodness) pain off on and on ever since. Nothing like this, but I certainly appreciate how sensitive your back is and how pain can impact so much else in your life. A good feature for letter B!
I’ve just bent down to get a sponge out of a pail and ended up in bed for days with a heating pad. Sometimes the back can be so sensitive!
Yup! Last time I did it I just picked up my kid wrong. Need to be so careful about it!
I had this for years. Now I’m in a wheelchair, and before you think that’s a pita, which it is, I’d rather that than the years of pain.
Pain is worse than anything! Sorry that you have had to deal with it.
This type of pain can be crippling and people who have not experienced severe back pain or sciatica have no idea just how bad it can be. I’ve had two surgeries on the same herniated disc. While it helped, pain is now my constant companion. I refuse to allow it to change who I am so I have adapted. My surgeon gave me two things to follow: if it hurts, don’t do it and walk as much as you can. These two keep me moving and enjoying life.
We have to keep on keeping on…don’t we? I had thoracic disc surgery in 2012. I can handle the pain from my back but deal with excruciating pain from where the surgeon cut into me.
