Musical Monday Special Edition ~ Remembering Selena

notes-153132_1280

Selena Quintanilla – Perez
April 16, 1971 – March 31, 1995

I can still remember the day I heard about Selena’s tragic death while listening to my car radio. I pulled over immediately to turn up the volume as I could not believe what I was hearing. It was true…Selena had been shot by her supposed friend and manager of her fan club and boutiques, Yolanda Saldivar.

No other performer’s death has ever touched me as deeply as Selena’s. And I am not the only one who feels this way as millions of her fans have kept her spirit alive by celebrating the life of the Queen of Tejano through her music every day.

It’s hard to believe that 20 years have gone by in which this world has been without this beautiful, compassionate, and multi-talented woman. How sad that her life had to be cut so short as I believe she was on her way to super stardom.

Selena’s talent was not the only quality she possessed. She genuinely had a kind and loving soul. People could connect with her. She was devoted to community and civic causes. She was truly one of a kind in so many ways.

On March 31, 1995 evil tried to snuff out a shining star…but Selena’s legend lives on, shining brightly forever in the hearts of those her love her.

RIP Selena
