W Is For Warriors For Humanity #AtoZChallenge

Dear Readers,

This is a group whose purpose is close to my heart. I believe that EVERY person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity and should treat others the same way. In a perfect world, this would exist….but we don’t live in such a world. But together people CAN make a difference.

Today I am talking to the creator of the Facebook group, Warriors For Humanity.

Please welcome Kathy

I am a mom of three adults who recently moved from Michigan to California after reconnecting with my college sweetheart.  Both of us had lost our spouses…my husband to a heart attack and his wife to breast cancer. I do a lot of volunteering and charity work. I volunteer at The Marine Mammal Center and Marin County Food Bank. I also am involved with Guide Dogs for the Blind, Always Dream Foundation, Cancer Prevention Institute of California along with others. My husband and I feel very blessed in life and enjoy giving back to the community. I enjoy being out in nature and most recently have become an activist.  Warriors for Humanity has been a great avenue for me to navigate this increased involvement in the direction of our country.

Please tell the readers a little about the group.

Our group was formed to be a place to share information and actions that we can all take to protect those things we hold dear. Our motto is:

We stand together in solidarity and unity with our allies, women, immigrants, people of color, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities and anyone who is threatened.

Together we will support, educate, walk hand in hand and actively be a part of a growing social justice movement to protect our rights, our education system and the environment.

We are grass roots
We are boots on the ground
We are Warriors for Humanity

We share events, actions and give reference pages to people to find local groups where they can meet in person and help change at the local level. We support each other through the tough times and celebrate the victories. We are a group of people from all over the country that want to make a positive impact on our country for all people.

We are in an alliance with several other groups like ours. In that alliance I can share with other leaders of groups what we are doing and they can share with me. This results in coordinated actions that have a big impact.

What inspired you to create this group?

The day after the election I was extremely sad. I felt like I had been blindsided by my fellow Americans. I saw that several of my friends felt the same. We all also didn’t want to wallow in that sadness…but take it and make it into something positive. So I formed the group to be a place where we could talk about how to take positive action to protect all the things that we held dear.

The group grew overnight…people adding their friends and family. We have had to slow down the growth and I refuse as many if not more people than I let in. We have had a couple attempted attacks but we have managed to keep our group one that promotes positive change and action. That is what we are about.

What would you like this group to accomplish?

The main thing we are about is being a place to share information. Real change will need to be at a local level so our members can connect with each other and meet others from groups that are in their area. We are a place where people can feel like they are among friends and voice their frustrations and ask for help as to how they can make a difference. We are a support system and information area for people who want to get involved and become activists.

Thank you Kathy for taking the time to tell us about this much needed and important group.
