PLUCKED FROM THE NEWS….When five year old twin girls, Lucie and Ellie Readings decided to place messages in empty wine bottles and toss them into the water, an idea they got from their mother, they never expected to hear from anyone. Both girls thought that their messages has been carried out to sea, and lost forever.
Five months later and 2,400 miles away from where the twins set their bottles afloat, a woman found Lucie’s bottle on a beach in Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands.
The woman, who could not read English, had the message translated to her by a friend. When she learned the bottle came from Essex, where she had a friend, she decided to not only visit her friend, but make a surprise visit to the owner of the bottle.
The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, showed up at Lucie and Ellie’s door, bringing with her homemade donuts.
Friendships were made and all are planning to keep in touch.
