I Is For Insects~ All About Me From A to Z ~ Blogging From A to Z April Challenge

I’m sure after this blog post some of you will think I am a bit crazy, but I don’t like killing insects. it really bothers me. I see bugs as living things. Most of them aren’t trying to bother you, they are just doing what ever bugs do. And sometimes that means getting into your house.

When an insect finds its way into my home, I catch and release. I use a small paper cup and it put it over the bug, then slowly and carefully slide a piece of cardboard underneath. After, I take it outside and let it go.

Amazon actually sells a few humane insect catch and release tools. They are mostly for teaching kids about insects. I’m thinking of purchasing this one – Carson BugView Quick-Release Bug Catching Tool and Magnifier for Spider, Children and Adults, green, one size (HU-10)

  1. I am afraid I do tend to discriminate between those insects and other creatures who are carted outside and those who meet with sudden death. Cockroaches most definitely are eliminated as are ants and flies. I will return a bee to the outdoors and also a huntsman spider but black house spiders and daddy long legs do not survive. We also have lizards (I know, not insects) come in for a visit and I encourage them out the door. Wasps are also not welcome inside or out. I do try to use a fly swatter rather than spray but sometimes it has to be the latter, especially if a lone mosquito is buzzing around at night.

  2. I like a lot of insects and spiders and bugs (I actually REALLY like crickets and grasshoppers), but not all of them. I don’t like scorpions, fire ants, or aggressive wasps. They all sting!
