G Is For Gardening ~ All About Me From A to Z~ Blogging From A to Z April Challenge 2024

Gardening has become my favorite hobby. I put it off for years, but now wish that I hadn’t. I’ve been planting vegetables and flowers since 2019. I remember the spring of 2020, when Covid hit, that it seemed that just about everyone decided to garden. It was so hard to find anything garden related at the stores!

I never realized, until I started this hobby, that gardening is great exercise for not only your body, but your mind as well. All the movements related to gardening help strengthen muscles and burn calories. Working in the garden also helps reduce anxiety and helps clear your mind. I’d rather be outside, working in the garden, than in my house.

Over the years I have been able to grow these vegetables: tomatoes, cucumbers, basil, peppers, potatoes, lettuce, scallions

These vegetables didn’t make it: broccoli, corn, watermelon, pumpkin. Maybe one day!

Do you garden?

  1. You’re more successful than me. All I have is Rosemary, Thyme and a Bay tree. My vegetable attempt harvested two miniature carrots suitable for leprechauns and half a dozen tomatoes that the slugs got to first. I may give it one more try this year 😉

    • I grew corn a few years ago. I was so excited to see it sprout and grow. When it was time to harvest, I found that the ears of corn had no corn in them…lol. I have no clue why that happened, but it was the first and last time I tried to grow corn. Thank you for stopping by!

  2. We (my husband and I) have gardened nearly every year since 1977. I grew up in a NYC apartment and I know I longed to garden ever since second grade (at least), when I tried to grow dwarf marigolds on a west windowsill. I’m glad you finally took the plunge and are sticking with it. I wonder how many people who tried it for the first time in 2020 are still doing it. My husband has gardened in a community garden since around 1987. It’s been an interesting experience. • We have a community garden up the street. There always seems to be people there when I go by. I bet it would be an interesting experience. I wonder too, if those who gardened during the pandemic stuck with it.
