E Is For Education~ All About Me From A to Z~ Blogging From A to Z April Challenge 2024

I should have graduated high school in 1975, but due to many years of being bullied, I had had enough and dropped out the beginning of my junior year.

In 1983, while raising two small children on my own, I decided to go to night school to obtain my GED. My mom was actually in my class and we both took the GED test at the same time.

After, I enrolled in a Secretarial/Data Entry program. It was a 12 week program, which I finished in 10 weeks with a typing speed of almost 100 wpm. I had a job almost immediately and made the local paper, picture and all, for graduating this program and getting off of welfare.

In 2009 I took a course through Long Ridge Writers Group and obtained the certificate, Breaking Into Print.

I have an Associate of Arts degree, which I got from University of Phoenix in 2013. I was an online student but did get to attend the graduation ceremony at the Boston campus. I finally got to walk across that stage with my family watching me, something I missed out on in high school.

  1. Bullying at school can certainly change your life. At least you made up for lost time once you got out of that environment. I think back to my own experiences at school and how talking to a school counsellor would have helped but it just wasn’t an option. Even telling a teacher or a parent was often not done. It was often a matter of suffering in silence, blocking it out or escaping into books.

    • My parents did everything they could about the bullies, but it seemed to always make things worse. I often wonder what became of these kids. Did they grow into bullying adults? Thanks for your comment.
