Musical Monday ~ American Idol – Another 2016 Demise

American Idol ~  June 11, 2002 – April 7, 2016

We certainly lost a lot of talented people in 2016, such as Prince, George Michael and mother-daughter, Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.

Not only did we lose a multitude of accomplished artists, 2016 also took away potential talent with its cancellation of American Idol.

For 15 seasons this popular singing competition brought about many extremely artistic performers. Even some contestants who did not win found fame just for their appearance on this show, such as Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daugtry, and Adam Lambert.

American Idol was hosted by Ryan Seacrest (first season he co-hosted with Brian Dunkleman).  The original judges of the show were Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.  Over the years other performers sat in as judges for a while including Ellen DeGeneres, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj.  The last seasons found Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. judging the competition.

This was one of my favorite shows and I looked forward to every season. I was sad to see it come to an end and I am certainly going to miss it!

What about you? Were you a faithful viewer like I was?  Who was your favorite contestant?  Who do you think was the best judge?

  1. I may have seen a few of the shows, but I was not a big fan. I do occasionally watch America’s got Talent, but only a few times if I can’t find anything else. I love Project Runway instead.
I am sorry you will not be able to watch it anymore. Hopefully you will get to see some of the performers in concert.

  2. I didn’t watch American Idol much beyond the first season, but I agree they brought on much, much talent. As with all popular shows, it brought many people together.
Indeed, we lost many talented people this past year, and for that reason, and others, 2016 has taken a beating all over the media. Here’s to a happier 2017. Happy New Year, Cheryl.

  3. You have chosen much good music here Cheryl 🙂
I don’t watch TV and haven’t for many years, so I only see this show once in a while online, when I receive links to something special.

    • I have been thinking of getting rid of my TV. There are only a handful of programs that I like to watch and most of them you can watch online somewhere. I hope things are going well with you Irene.

      • Thank you Cheryl. I have had some time without abundance for other posts than my jewelry, but I hope to find energy to go on again. Have you found yourself in the last year?

  4. I also loved this show and watched the very first season. So many amazing singers who became super stars after their showing on AI. I was particularly enamored with Elliot Yamin who took 3rd to Taylor Hicks (who?) and runner up Katherine Hicks. He did not become a super star, but he was able to improve his life as a result of the show. I kind of stopped watching after the long parade of male winners, although I did like Scott McCreery! Thanks for this post and the memories!
