Musical Monday ~ Who Sang It Better ~ I Think We’re Alone Now

Tommy James & The Shondells released I Think We’re Alone Now in 1967. The song reached #1 on the WLS Silver Dollar Survey (a survey that listed the most popular hit records back in the 60’s) and stayed for 5 weeks. It then went to the #8 spot and stayed there for all of 1967. On April 22, 1967, I Think We’re Alone Now reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

20 years later, in 1987, Tiffany released her rendition of I Think We’re Alone Now. She was 15 years old at the time. Although she was uncertain of this song, thinking it wasn’t modern enough, it turned out to be her biggest hit. The song hit the #1 spot on Billboard Hot 100 chart where it stayed for two weeks. It ranked #1 on the UK Singles chart for three weeks.

Who do you think sang it better?

  1. I was in 6th grade when this came out, and growing up with WLS, I heard this song a lot. Tommy James & The Shondells were from Niles, Michigan, which is close to Chicago, and they were a regional favorite.
